Good morning, y’all! I’m sitting writing, enjoying this rainy, chilly morning. It’s currently 53 degrees and “feels like” 49! In September….in TEXAS. I’m in heaven. I’ve started adding fall decor around the house, and it’s feeling very cozy inside. I’ll share some of that later, but today I wanted to share the evolution of our dining room.
I need to go back a few months….You all have seen the long, oval table we had with the cane-back chairs. It was a beautiful antique set that we bought at a resale shop in the Dallas area right after we bought our house. We had planned to re-paint it and never did (imagine that), so it was never my “dream” dining set. After awhile, Hubby said he thought we needed a round table because he hated walking around the oval one that took up quite a bit of the room. I wasn’t keen on the round table idea. Tablescapes are one of my favorite things to create, and a round table doesn’t leave much space for that.
One day I ran across a table at West Elm that I absolutely fell in love with. And it was round. Go figure. So suddenly, I was all for giving up that oval table. (Also, we had bought the modern turquoise chairs and they weren’t the greatest with the antique table.) Long story short, the West Elm table was on back order for months and we couldn’t get it at the time. But now I was ready for change. I will blame it all on the fireplace makeover. It totally changed the vibe of our house, and now I was craving everything a little more modern.
Changes in Progress….
I decided to sell the antique set and go from there. Ironically enough, about 5 years ago I bought a table set at a thrift store for $50 that I had planned to re-do and sell. It was still in storage, so I decided to see what it would look like in our dining room. I cleaned it up and brought it inside…and the rest is history. Hubby loves it….I love the look of it, but not so much the functionality. I’ve never been fond of glass table tops, and now I’ve got glass. And I dislike it as much as I thought I would. 😉
The Thrifted Table
I can live with it for awhile though, because it IS pretty and that counts for something, right? And it’s only until I can get my dream table. Much to Hubby’s delight. 🙂
Moving on to more changes…you can see the jute rug in the picture. While I love the rug, it doesn’t get along with the vacuum and it’s terrible to scoot chairs in and out on (lesson learned). It has also gotten in a fight with a plant stand. 🙂 So I definitely needed a new rug and decided to layer one on top of the jute.
I’m the worst at picking rugs. It takes me forever to find what I like, and typically they’re way over my budget. Can you identify?? But a few months ago, I spotted one at Target that I loved. I wasn’t sure how it would look with my stuff, but then I changed out my throw pillows in the adjoining living room, and suddenly knew that rug would be perfect! I walked into Target last weekend, not expecting to buy a rug, but it was on sale and that was the end of that. It’s a long story…I actually bought one that was too small, so bought a bigger one online, only to have it sell out before I could pick it up. So we drove 40 miles to another Target and picked it up. And here she is, my friends….My boho dining room of my dreams. Well, I still need some artwork and would love some wallpaper, but the work is never done, amiright?

I’d love for you to pin this because sharing is caring! 🙂
I love how this space has evolved over time. Honestly, I think that’s how a space we love truly comes together; collected over time into something we love.
You can see a few peeks at some fall decor in the background of one of these pics. I’ll be back to share that soon!
Till the next time,
Kassie
