Finally a Fire in the Fireplace!

Hello, friends! It’s been a while since I’ve blogged….we’ve been so busy! Most of what has consumed my world right now has been working on Christmas music for the choir at church (can’t believe the concert is just over a month away!), and making trips to Dallas for something that I won’t share right now… 😉 Maybe soon. We’ve also had a fundraiser going on at church that I’ve been making crafts for. Hopefully, I’ll be able to post more about that tomorrow or Thursday. We’ve had a ladies retreat for our church, Halloween and now in revival services this week(check that out here). PLUS, my 35th birthday is coming up on Sunday! I had dinner with the inlaws last night for that. Whew. Busy.

I wanted to do a quick update on the house. My hubby has been busy working on the kitchen, which is really starting to come together. He got the ceiling in and the crown molding up…but no pictures til it’s completely done! 🙂

With the cooler weather moving in, which I L.O.V.E., by the way…we’ve been wanting to get our fireplace working. To explain to those who don’t know…most of these older homes (by older, I mean our house was built in 1928), had fireplaces, but as the years went by, regulations for homes changed and most of the fireplaces were too shallow. So, most have either been turned into mock fireplaces, or converted to gas. Ours, thank the good Lord, I’m assuming was converted to gas, unless it was gas to begin with. However, we didn’t know the condition of the fireplace, and the gas was not connected. It turned out to be a smaller project than anticipated (it’s about time for a project like that!), so Randy surprised me the other night with some ceramic gas logs and he got the gas connected. I am enjoying the fire today! My two requirements when we bought an old house were:

1. a fireplace that could be used
2. two bathrooms

But of course, most old homes like this only have one bathroom unless one has been added, so I changed my requirements to:

1. a fireplace that could be used
2. one bathroom and some way, any way to squeeze in another one.

HA!

SO, now my first requirement has been met. I’m thinking it’s going to be quite a while before that second one is met. But we’re doing ok with one bathroom. Surprisingly. 🙂 We plan to build on a master bath (and much needed closet) in the back of the house. So the list goes on and on…..but it’s fun.

Here’s a couple of pics of the fireplace today. We’re looking for a new screen…BTW, if the old logs that were in the fireplace would have burned fire instead of just being a heater, I would have loved to have kept them in there. The patent on the bottom said 1925! However, the grates on the front were so old and brittle that they started falling apart when Randy pulled them out of the fireplace. We looked online for some info on it, but couldn’t find anything.
