Hey, friends! Wow, it’s been forever since I’ve checked in here! Life has been crazy, but good. I wanted to check in and update you a little. About 3.5 years ago, I enrolled in online interior design classes. Right after that, some things happened in our lives that were frustrating and discouraging (and I had two almost-four-year-olds at the time…what was I thinking?). In all honesty, I had no desire to work on classes and had no inspiration. So, I didn’t finish the classes in the time allotted. Fast forward a few and here we are! Life has gotten better (long story), and I re-enrolled in my classes! I’m so excited and thought I’d share with you what I’ve done so far.
The Interior Design Institute
I am enrolled in The Interior Design Institute. They are an accredited school, and on completion of the courses, I will receive an accredited certificate. This is the route I chose, because I felt too old and too busy to try and complete a degree in design. 😉 I finished 2 classes previously, and am now back at it with my 3rd class.
My first class was “The Visual Language of Design”. It covered the elements and principles of design, and how to use them to create balanced and harmonious interiors. It was interesting enough, and overall enjoyable. The second class was “The History of Style, Decoration and Architecture”, and I can’t say that I enjoyed it as much as the first class. It was necessary information but in one word: boring. I was glad to get my grade and be done with that one!
I got the basic, mundane stuff out of the way, and now it gets interesting! The class I’m working on now is “Design Styles”, and it’s a lot of info and fun. I’m working on my assignment now to finish it up, and thought I’d share part of it with you. The instructions are to make a mood board and write a paper using design terms to describe the space. A mood board is basically a visual board of items you’d present to a client to give them an idea of the plan for their space. I chose to do a bohemian style bedroom.
Bohemian Mood Board

Bohemian style is one of my favorites right now, so I could move right into this space! 🙂 This has been a fun assignment, and I’m hoping my teacher likes this as much as I do.
I’ll be updating you on my next class, which is floor planning. It could get interesting, y’all. I have to draw a floor plan to scale, and I’m not a drawer or an architect. Stay tuned. HA.
Have a fabulous day, friends!

What an inspiring journey! The Interior Design Institute’s flexible approach mirrors what we’ve implemented at jl58 casino – recognizing that adult learners need accommodating pathways. The visual language principles you’re mastering are foundational; even when history classes feel tedious, they provide crucial context for creating culturally resonant spaces that truly transform environments.
